docile

Some unknown aunty who knew my masi knew came up to me at a wedding yesterday and pressed my cheek and said "Ohh she looks so docile and lovely". Having memorized my SAT words like a good girl back in the day, I remembered what this meant. Poor aunty.

a. She didn't realize that this was probably not the right person to call docile.
b. She didn't remember exactly what docile meant, and used it loosely, (which once in a while I also do)

In any event, she ran off in a few minutes because I told her very clearly that one really doesn't strive to be "docile". And that i'd chopped off all my hair precisely to repel this front of a "goody-goody" girl. She attempted a "can't hide your true nature just because of a haircut; these things come through" and then realizing the futility of it all, ran off. Phew.

Please give me a little pat on the back for all such women's lib public awareness campaigns that I run for free.
